The Defences to Homicide: Issues Paper was released in March 2002.

It explains the social context of most homicides and describes the existing defences to homicide, including:

  • self-defence
  • provocation
  • mental impairment, automatism, diminished responsibility and infanticide
  • duress, necessity and marital coercion.
