Workplace Privacy: Issues Paper

The Workplace Privacy Issues Paper was released in October 2002 and received 34 submissions.

The paper focuses on the intersection of the two areas of workplace relations law and privacy law. It also includes a comprehensive discussion of the notion of 'privacy' and how a test for the invasion of a person's privacy might be formulated.

Questions in the paper ask about:

  • our understanding of privacy
  • how widely privacy should be protected in the workplace
  • what principles should underlie the protection of workplace privacy
  • what enforcement mechanisms could be used.

Below is an outline of the chapters:

Chapter 1: Introduction
Chapter 2: What is Privacy?
Chapter 3: Current Workplace Practices
Chapter 4: Existing Protections for Workplace Privacy
Chapter 5: Principles and Possible Approaches to Reform
