Review of the Bail Act: Consultation Paper

The Review of the Bail Act: Consultation Paper reviews the Bail Act and the processes and procedures that surround bail when considered by police, bail justices and the courts. The rationale behind the presumption against bail is considered, as are sureties and the conditions set for bail. The perceptions and experiences of victims of crime are also detailed, along with the way children, young people and marginalised groups are treated under the Act and by the justice system.

More than 50 submissions were received to the paper, which had a deadline of 23 November 2005.
