Consultations
The commission consults with people with expertise and experience in the laws under review, as well as people affected by the laws.
As soon as a project begins, we identify individuals and groups who may want to contribute to law reform. We then organise meetings with these people to hear what they think about the way the law works and what could be done to improve it.
These meetings occur in the commission offices or researchers travel to suburban and regional areas.
The commission may also conduct one or more public consultations, which anyone can attend, especially if the project has far-reaching implications.
Once a project is well underway, the commission may also hold expert roundtables. The commission holds these discussion groups to gain more information about issues that otherwise is not readily available. They are usually held in the beginning of a project to scope out possible issues, to provide more information about written submissions or test reactions to interim recommendations.
