Jury Directions paper released

The commission has released a Consultation Paper detailing options and proposals for reforming the directions judges give to juries in criminal trials. The Consultation Paper identifies factors that contribute to complex and lengthy jury directions, particularly in sexual offence trials and in relation to consciousness of guilt warnings. The paper can be downloaded from this website. Submissions are required by 30 November 2008. The commission was asked to look at directions to juries in January this year.
