The Attorney-General has extended the Commission’s reporting date for our review on the registration of sex offenders. The final report, which was originally due on 4 November 2011, is now due to be delivered on 22 December 2011.
The Attorney-General asked the Commission to review the registration of sex offenders in April this year. The review will cover laws governing the registration of sex offenders and the use of information about registered sex offenders by law enforcement and child protection agencies.
The Commission released an information paper in June and has received 26 submissions in response to the paper. We are currently considering feedback from consultations and submissions as we develop recommendations for our final report.
