The Attorney-General has asked the Victorian Law Reform Commission to review the operation and effectiveness of the Change or Suppression (Conversion) Practices Prohibition Act 2021.
Conduct or practices that aim to change or suppress a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity is banned in Victoria.
The review’s terms of reference focus on the effectiveness of the legislative framework in responding to change or suppression practices. The purposes of the Act and the desirability of having criminal offences and a civil response scheme are not part of the review.
The review will be completed within six months.
