Focused Review of How the Change or Suppression Practices Ban Is Working: Consultation Paper

Voiced by Amazon Polly

This Consultation Paper has been published to help guide submissions to the Focused review of how the change or suppression practices ban is working.

The Attorney-General has asked the Victorian Law Reform Commission to review the operation and effectiveness of the Change or Suppression (Conversion) Practices Prohibition Act 2021.

The Act prohibits practices that aim to change or suppress a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.

The review will focus on the terms of reference and examine how the current law is operating, whether it is effective in responding to change or suppression practices and how it might be improved. The purposes of the Act and the desirability of having criminal offences and a civil response scheme are not part of the review.

You can make a submission until 24 March 2026.
